The Music With No Player

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
raamkalee mehlaa 5.
Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਤਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਦ ॥
panch sabad tah pooran naad.
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, echo the perfect sound current of the Naad.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
anhad baajay achraj bismaad.
The wondrous, amazing unstruck melody vibrates.
ਕੇਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ॥
kayl karahi sant har log.
The Saintly people play there with the Lord.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥੧॥
paarbarahm pooran nirjog. ||1||
They remain totally detached, absorbed in the Supreme Lord God. ||1||

In plain words

There, five kinds of sound ring out as one perfect music.

A music no one has to strum plays on and on, wondrous and amazing.

There the saints play joyfully with the One,

free of every tie, resting in the One who is beyond all.

The deepest music is the one no one has to play.
The deeper layer

Panch shabad (the five primal sounds) and anhad naad (the unstruck melody) name an inner music not made by any instrument — the felt hum of reality itself. Nirjog (utterly unattached) is not coldness but freedom: playing without grasping.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt a quiet “hum” of everything being alright?
