Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Meeting the Sangat, the One beyond all came into my thoughts.

In the Sangat, my mind found contentment.

I touch my forehead to the feet of the saints.

Again and again, I bow low to the saints.

The Sangat can wake up a restless heart.
The deeper layer

Meeting the Sangat wakes the One up in the heart.

Bhaytat sang means simply meeting the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One. That meeting does the work. The One comes to mind, and the restless mind finds santokh, contentment.

Then Guru Arjan bows. He touches his forehead to the feet of the saints. Anik baar santeh dand-ut — many, many times I bow to them. That is thankfulness shown with the whole body. It is not about acting small.

It is like hugging a coach who helped you through a hard season. You want to show your thanks, not just say it.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose company makes you feel more like yourself?
