This mind is a sacrifice to the Saints;

holding tight to their support, I have found peace, and in their mercy, they have protected me. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This mind of mine is given in thanks to the saints.

Holding on to their shelter, I found peace, and in their kindness they kept me safe.

Peace comes from leaning on the right support.
The deeper layer

Peace comes from holding on to the shelter of the saints.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Jaa kee ot gahee — I took hold of their shelter. Ot means shelter, something safe to lean on.

Peace and safety came through kirpaa, which means kindness or mercy. It was a gift, not something earned. Think of a little kid holding a grown-up's hand to cross a busy street.

A Question to Sit With

When you feel wobbly, whose steadiness do you borrow?
