Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 43
Verse 3 of 5

It Is All Pure

ਸਗਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥
sagal pavitar sarab nirmalaa.
All is pure; all is immaculate.
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ॥
jo vartaa-ay so-ee bhalaa.
Whatever exists is good.
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
jah raakhai so-ee mukat thaan.
Wherever He keeps me, that is the place of liberation for me.
ਜੋ ਜਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
jo japaa-ay so-ee naam. ||2||
Whatever He makes me chant, is His Name. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Everything is pure; everything is spotless.

Whatever the One makes happen is good.

Wherever the One keeps me, that is my place of freedom.

Whatever the One has me repeat, that is the Naam.

When the eye clears, everywhere becomes the right place to be.
The deeper layer

Sagal pavitar sarab nirmalaa — once the eye clears, all is seen as pure. Jah raakhai so-ee mukat thaan: liberation is not elsewhere but wherever you are placed — freedom as a way of seeing, not a location.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of a hard spot you were in that turned out to teach you something good?
