The Only Boat, the Only Rest

ਤਰਣ ਤਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
taran taaran parabh tayro naa-o.
You Name, God, is the boat to carry us across.

aykaa saran gahee man mayrai tuDh bin doojaa naahee thaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My mind has grasped Your protection alone. Other than You, I have no place of rest at all. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Your Name, God, is the boat that carries us across.

My mind holds on to Your shelter alone.

Apart from You, I have no place of rest at all.

When you rest in one shelter, you stop searching everywhere else.
The deeper layer

Taran taaran — the boat that ferries across. Ekaa saran gahee: my mind holds one shelter. Doojaa naahee thaa-o: there is no second place to rest. Trusting one shelter steadies everything else.

A Question to Sit With

What is the one thing that helps your mind stop racing?
