ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
doojaa nahee jaanai ko-ay.
Let no one think that God and Guru are separate.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
satgur niranjan so-ay.
The True Guru is the Immaculate Lord.
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
maanukh kaa kar roop na jaan.
Do not believe that He is a mere human being;
ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਮਾਨੇ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
milee nimaanay maan. ||2||
He gives honor to the dishonored. ||2||

Let no one think the One and the Guru are two.
The True Guru is the pure One.
Do not think of the Guru as only a human being.
The Guru gives honor to those who have none.
The Guru lifts up exactly the people the world tends to overlook.
Doojaa nahee jaanai ko-ay — do not see the One and the Guru as two. Milee nimaanay maan: honor comes to the nimaanaa, the one without status. Again and again in Guru Arjan's bani, the people the world dishonors are the ones lifted up.
