Ask for the Treasure

gur kee har tayk tikaa-ay.
Hold tight to the Support of the Guru, the Lord.
avar aasaa sabh laahi.
Give up all other hopes.
har kaa naam maag niDhaan.
Ask for the treasure of the Name of the Lord,
taa dargeh paavahi maan. ||3||
and then you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Hold tight to the support of the Guru, the One.

Let go of every other hope.

Ask for the treasure of the Name.

Then you will be honored in the court of the One.

Ask for the one thing worth asking for, and let the smaller wants go.
The deeper layer

Gur kee har tayk tikaa-ay — anchor on the Guru’s support. Avar aasaa sabh laahi: set down the scattered hopes. Har kaa naam maag nidhaan: ask for the one treasure worth asking for. The honor (maan) that follows is inner, not social.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for just one treasure, what would it be?
