Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever happens, meet it as good.

Let your proud, puffed-up self step aside.

Day and night, keep singing the praises of the One.

This is the full purpose of a human life.

A whole life can be pointed toward one thing: grateful remembrance.
The deeper layer

Hovai so-ee bhal maan — accept whatever comes as good, a call to sahaj, the peace that is not thrown by circumstance. Pooran ayhee su-aa-o: this is the complete purpose (su-aa-o) of life — not achievement, but grateful remembrance.

A Question to Sit With

What do you think a good life is for?
