Renounce your cleverness and all your tricks. Chant the Immaculate Chant of the Guru's Mantra. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Remember the One, O saints, and be full of joy.

Set aside cleverness and all your tricks, and repeat the Guru's spotless word.

Remembering the One is meant to be joyful, not a chore.
The deeper layer

Remembrance and joy go together, never a grim duty. The nirmal (spotless) chant of the Guru's word is a source of delight.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Aanand kar sant har jap — remember the One and be joyful. Chhaad si-aanap: drop the cleverness.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do that is both good for you and fun?
