Where to Place Your Hopes

ayk kee kar aas bheetar.
Place the hopes of your mind in the One Lord.
nirmal jap naam har har.
Chant the Immaculate Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
gur kay charan namaskaar.
Bow down to the Guru's Feet,
bhavjal utreh paar. ||2||
and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Rest the hopes of your mind in the One alone.

Say the clean, pure Name of the One, *Har, Har*.

Bow at the Guru's feet.

And you will cross the fearsome ocean of the world.

Where you place your hopes shapes the whole voyage of your life.
The deeper layer

Ek kee kar aas bheetar — place hope within, in the One. Bhavjal utreh paar: cross the ocean of existence, wild as it is. Bowing (namaskaar) comes from love, not fear.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you place your biggest hopes right now?
