Verse 3 of 5

When Enemies Become Friends

oothat baithat har jaap.
While standing up and sitting down, meditate on the Lord,
binsai sagal santaap.
and all your troubles shall depart.
bairee sabh hoveh meet.
All your enemies will become friends.
nirmal tayraa hovai cheet. ||2||
Your consciousness shall be immaculate and pure. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Standing up or sitting down, remember the One.

And all your troubles leave.

Even your enemies all become friends.

Your heart grows clear and clean.

When your own heart clears, even old enemies can start to feel like friends.
The deeper layer

Oothat baithat har jaap — remember in every posture, in ordinary life. Bairee sabh hoveh meet: enemies become friends — not by defeating them but by the transformation of one’s own heart (nirmal cheet). The world changes because the seeing changes.

A Question to Sit With

Has your feeling about someone ever changed just because you changed?
