Settling Into Peace

pooran tayree hovai aas.
Your hopes shall be fulfilled,
jam kee katee-ai tayree faas.
and the noose of the Messenger of Death will be cut away.
gur kaa updays suneejai.
So listen to the Guru's Teachings.
naanak sukh sahj sameejai. ||4||30||41||
O Nanak, you shall be absorbed in celestial peace. ||4||30||41||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Your hopes will be fulfilled,

and death's noose is cut away from you.

So listen to the Guru's teaching.

Nanak says: you will settle into a peace that is easy and deep.

Listening to the Guru loosens death's hold and settles you into peace.
The deeper layer

Jam kee katee-ai tayree faas — the noose of death is cut. In the old picture, death comes as a messenger with a rope; here it loses its hold. Sukh sahj sameejai: absorbed into sahaj, the natural, unforced peace.

A Question to Sit With

What helps loosen your worries and let you settle into calm?
