Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 61
Verse 4 of 5

He Makes and Unmakes in an Instant

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
saahib mayraa at bhaaraa.
My Lord and Master is so very great.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
khin meh thaap uthaapanhaaraa.
In an instant, He establishes and disestablishes.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tis bin avar na ko-ee.
There is no other than Him.
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
jan kaa raakhaa so-ee. ||3||
He is the Saving Grace of His humble servant. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Master is so very great.

In a single instant it can raise up and set down.

There is no one else beside it.

It protects its humble servants.

The same One that holds all power is also the one who keeps you safe.
The deeper layer

Saahib mayraa at bhaaraa — my Master is immense. Khin meh thaap uthaapanhaaraa: in a moment it establishes and unsettles — the vastness of the One's power. And this immense One is tender too: jan kaa raakhaa so-ee, the protector of its humble ones.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel protected when things around you feel big and shifting?
