Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Be kind to me, and hear my prayer:

let Your servant see You.

Nanak says: I repeat the Name of the One

whose glory and light are the highest of all.

The deepest prayer is simply to be near and to see.
The deeper layer

Kar kirpaa ardaas suneejai — the prayer (ardaas) to be heard. Darsan deejai: give the darshan, the seeing/presence — the longing of the whole shabad. Sabh tay ooch jaa kaa partaap: the One whose radiance is highest of all, praised at the close.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you long to be near just to be in their presence?
