Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 64
Verse 4 of 5

When the Knots Come Undone

ਮਿਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
mitay janjaal ho-ay parabh da-i-aal.
Worldly entanglements are ended, when God becomes merciful.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
gur kaa darsan daykh nihaal.
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I am enraptured.
ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਬਣਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
paraa poorbalaa karam ban aa-i-aa.
My perfect pre-destined karma has been activated.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨਾ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
har kay gun nit rasnaa gaa-i-aa. ||3||
With my tongue, I continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The tangles I was caught in come undone when the One is kind.

Seeing the Guru, I am filled with joy.

The full good that was prepared for me long ago has come awake.

And my tongue keeps singing the One's praises, day after day.

Sometimes the tangles come undone all at once, and joy rushes in.
The deeper layer

When the One is kind, the entanglements come undone: mitay janjaal. Gur kaa darsan daykh nihaal: seeing the Guru brings joy (nihaal), and the knots loosen.

Paraa poorbalaa karam ban aa-i-aa: good prepared long ago comes to fruition, like a seed planted early that finally flowers.

A Question to Sit With

What is a tangle in your life you would love to see come undone?
