Verse 4 of 5

The Sight That Fills You

gur parmaysar bhayt nihaal.
I am enraptured, meeting with the Guru, the Transcendent Lord.
so darsan paa-ay jis ho-ay da-i-aal.
He alone obtains the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, who is blessed by His Mercy.
paarbarahm jis kirpaa karai.
One who is blessed by the Grace of the Supreme Lord God,
saaDhsang so bhavjal tarai. ||3||
crosses over the terrifying world-ocean in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Meeting the Guru, one with the Supreme, fills me with joy.

The blessed sight of the One comes to whoever the One is kind to.

Whoever the Supreme One blesses with grace

crosses the frightening ocean of the world in the Sangat.

The blessed sight of the One is a gift that opens in you, not a prize you seize.
The deeper layer

Darsan is the blessed seeing: being met, more than looking. It comes to the one the One is kind to (jis ho-ay da-i-aal), as a gift. The crossing of the bhavjal (the world-ocean) is then made in the Sangat, together.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you only understood once you were ready to see it?
