The Pure Word That Melts Pride

nirmal mant day-ay jis daan.
One whom He blesses with His Immaculate Mantra,
tajeh bikaar binsai abhimaan.
renounces corruption; his egotistical pride is dispelled.
ayk Dhi-aa-ee-ai saaDh kai sang.
Meditate on the One Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
paap binaasay naam kai rang. ||3||
Sins are erased, through the love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever the One blesses with the pure Mantra

lets go of what is harmful, and their pride melts away.

Remember the One together in the Sangat.

Wrongdoing is washed away in the love of the Naam.

Grace comes first, and the changing follows on its own.
The deeper layer

The gift comes first, and the letting-go of bikaar (harm) and abhimaan (pride) follows. Grace does not wait for you to clean up first; it is the thing that does the cleaning.

Nirmal mant is the spotless word, the Naam given as a gift (daan). The Sangat means people gathered together to remember the One.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever changed for the better because someone believed in you first?
