In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Sing the songs that praise the One.

Holding the Name close, you find the deepest peace there is —

and your restless coming and going comes gently to rest, my friend.

Singing what you love can settle a restless heart.
The deeper layer

Sing about the One, and your restless heart finds its way to rest.

This short song has just two verses. It starts with the Rahao, the "pause" line that is its center. Gaavhu raam kay gun geet means "sing the songs of the One's goodness."

Naam japat param sukh paa-ee-ai means that holding the Name close brings the deepest peace. Aavaa ga-on mitai means the coming and going stops. That is the restless circle of being born, living, and passing on, again and again.

The song ends with mayray meet, "my friend." It feels like a friend talking to you on a slow walk home, warm and in no hurry.

A Question to Sit With

What is a song that always calms you down or lifts you up?
