Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

I bow low to the One, the highest Being of all.

The One and Only fills the water, the land, the earth, and the sky — everywhere, all at once.

The One fills every corner of the world, with nowhere left out.
The deeper layer

Jalan thalan basudh gagan: water, land, earth, sky. The whole world is named in a breath, and the One fills every part of it. There is nowhere the One is not.

This shabad is a Partaal, a form sung to shifting rhythms, and this is its rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the centre, compact and grand.

A Question to Sit With

Where in the world around you do you most feel a sense of wonder?
