Verse 2 of 3

Making, Holding, Making Again

ਹਰਨ ਧਰਨ ਪੁਨ ਪੁਨਹ ਕਰਨ ॥
haran Dharan pun punah karan.
Over and over again, the Creator Lord destroys, sustains and creates.
ਨਹ ਗਿਰਹ ਨਿਰੰਹਾਰੰ ॥੧॥
nah girah niraNhaaraN. ||1||
He has no home; He needs no nourishment. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Again and again the One unmakes the world, holds it up, and makes it new.

The One needs no house to live in and no food to keep going.

Creation is an endless rhythm of making, holding, and making anew.
The deeper layer

Haran dharan pun punah karan — the endless turning of unmaking, holding, and making again: the natural rhythm of all creation, like seasons or tides. Nah girah niranhaaran — with no home and no need of food, the One depends on nothing, while everything depends on the One.

A Question to Sit With

What are some things in nature that end and begin again in a cycle?
