In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O my mind, lean on the Naam of the One the way you lean on something strong when you are tired.

When you remember the One, the crooked, unkind thinking goes away,

and you reach the state of freedom, wide and open.

*Lean your mind on the One, and the tangled thinking clears.*
The deeper layer

Ot layho: take shelter, lean on. Durmat is the crooked, unkind mind, and remembering the One dissolves it. Pad nirbaanaa is the state of freedom, where grasping lets go and the heart is at peace.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the centre of the shabad, and it holds the whole thought. In the Ninth Master's poetry, letting go of grasping opens into peace.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind settle when your thoughts get tangled and loud?
