Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Someone goes without food and puts the body through hardship.
Without the Guru's wisdom, the heart is never satisfied.
The one who follows only their own will is born, dies, and is born again.
Punishing the body cannot fill a hunger that lives in the heart.
Hardship for the body cannot satisfy the heart. The Guru's wisdom can.
Ann na khaahi, dayhee dukh deejai means going without food and making the body suffer. Tripat is deep satisfaction, which no fast can make. A manmukh is someone who follows only their own will, and that person keeps going round, born and dying and born again.
