Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 90
Verse 3 of 26

One Light Through Three Worlds

ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
mamtaa maar ha-umai sokhai taribhavan jot tumaaree. ||2||
He conquers attachment, and eradicates egotism, and sees Your Divine Light pervading the three worlds, Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Conquering clinging attachment and drying up the ego,

the heart sees Your one Light shining through all the worlds.

When the grasping quiets down, you start to see the same light in everything.
The deeper layer

Mamtaa maar — slaying possessive attachment; ha-umai sokhai — drying up ego. What remains is vision: tribhavan jot tumaaree — Your Light pervading the three worlds. The two acts are one act: as the ego dries, the single Light becomes visible everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

What can you see more clearly when you are not busy wanting something?
