A Steady Mind Is the Only Posture

man darirh kar aasan bais jogee taa tayree kalpanaa jaa-ee.
Make your stable mind the Yogic posture you sit in, Yogi, and then you shall be rid of your tormenting desires.

kaa-i-aa nagree meh mangan charheh jogee taa naam palai paa-ee. ||3||
Go begging in the village of the body, Yogi, and then, you shall obtain the Naam in your lap. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Yogi, make a steady mind the seat you sit on, and the restless wants that torment you will go.

Go begging in the village of your own body, Yogi, and the Naam will fall into your lap.

The steadiest seat you can take is a calm mind.
The deeper layer

Aasan, the yogic seat, is reinterpreted as man darirh — a firm, steady mind. Then kalpanaa (tormenting fancies and desires) settles. “Begging in the village of the body” (kaa-i-aa nagree) is seeking within rather than wandering without.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind sit still?
