Eyes on the Wonder Unseen

ਲੋਇਣ ਦੇਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਦਿਸਟਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨੪॥
lo-in daykh rahay bismaadee chit adisat lagaa-ee. ||24||
Let your eyes gaze upon the Wondrous Lord; let your consciousness be attached to the Unseen Lord. ||24||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let your eyes keep gazing, full of wonder, at the Wondrous One.

Let your mind rest on the One you cannot see.

Wonder is a doorway to the One you cannot see.
The deeper layer

Look at the world with wonder, and rest your heart on the One you cannot see.

Lo-in dekh rahay bismaadee — the eyes keep looking, full of bismaad. Bismaad means wonder, the "wow" feeling. It is how you feel looking up at a sky full of stars, or seeing a tiny baby hold your finger.

Chit adisat lagaa-ee — the chit, the mind and attention, rests on the adisat, the Unseen. The eyes take in what is seen, and the heart leans toward what is behind it.

This is the stance of awe. It is the feeling Sikhs put into the word Waheguru: wonder, turned toward a presence no eye can catch.

A Question to Sit With

What is something ordinary that becomes amazing if you look closely?
