Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 93
Verse 3 of 22

What Can I Possibly Bring?

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਈ ॥੨॥
har bin sabh kichh mailaa santahu ki-aa ha-o pooj charhaa-ee. ||2||
Without the Lord, everything is filthy, O Saints; what offering should I place before Him? ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O saints, without the One, everything is stained and dusty.

So what offering could I ever place before the One?

Without the One, even my best gifts are dusty.
The deeper layer

Har bin sabh kichh mailaa — apart from the One, everything is stained. The question ki-aa ha-o pooj cha-rhaa-ee (what offering shall I place before Him?) is the humble recognition that we have nothing to give the Source that did not first come from the Source. The only true gift is remembrance.

A Question to Sit With

If everything you have was already given to you, what could you offer back?
