Everyone worships Him, O Saints, but the self-willed manmukh is not accepted or approved. ||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O saints, everyone worships — the words, the bowing, the motions.
But the self-willed one, who follows only their own wants, is not accepted.
Going through the motions does not land when the heart follows only itself.
Poojaa karai sabh lok — everyone worships. Outward ritual can go on while the manmukh (the self-willed one, turned toward their own wants) stays unchanged inside, and that worship does not land. This holds for empty form anywhere, in any tradition.
A Question to Sit With
Have you ever done the right thing on the outside while your heart was somewhere else?
