Verse 16 of 31

Carried Across

ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੧੫॥
sabad lagay say-ee jan nistaray bha-ojal paar utaaree. ||15||
Those humble beings who are attached to the Shabad are saved; they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those humble people who hold on to the Word are saved.

They cross the wide, frightening ocean of the world, safely to the other shore.

The right thing to hold onto carries you over what you could never cross alone.
The deeper layer

Sabad lagay sayee jan nistaray; bhaujal paar utaaree — attached to the Word, they cross the bhaujal, the vast ocean of worldly existence. The frightening depth is real, but the emphasis lands on the crossing: not on drowning, but on the sure passage the Word provides.

A Question to Sit With

What has felt like a strong boat under you when life got rough?
