The One Who Carries You Over

Without the True Lord, no one can cross over; how rare are those who contemplate and understand this. ||16||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the True One, no one gets across.

Only a rare few think this through and understand it.

No one gets across without the True One.
The deeper layer

No one gets across life's big river without the True One.

Bin har saachay ko paar na paavai — without the True One, no one reaches the other shore. Paar means across, to the far side.

Boojhai ko veechaaree — only a few, by thinking it through, understand this. Ko here means "rare ones."

This could sound sad, but it can also be a relief. Think of a small child trying to carry a heavy bag up the stairs. When a parent lifts it, the child is not a failure. The child can finally stop straining. Knowing you cannot cross alone means you can let yourself be carried.

A Question to Sit With

When has admitting you needed help made things easier?
