Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 94
Verse 29 of 31

What Fades and What Saves

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੮॥
maa-i-aa moh binas jaa-igaa ubray sabad veechaaree. ||28||
Attachment to Maya will end and go away; only by contemplating the Shabad will you be saved. ||28||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The tight pull of Maya — the shiny things of the world — will fade and be gone.

Only by thinking deeply about the Word are you carried through.

The pull of things fades; what you hold in your heart is what stays.
The deeper layer

Maa-i-aa moh binas jaa-igaa; ubray sabad veechaaree — attachment to maya will pass away; those who contemplate the Word are saved. A simple sorting of the temporary from the lasting: things fade, contemplation endures. Sach stays; jhooth washes off.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life feels lasting, and what feels like it will fade?
