Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 94
Verse 30 of 31

Woken From the Inside

ਆਪਿ ਜਗਾਏ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਗੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੯॥
aap jagaa-ay say-ee jaagay gur kai sabad veechaaree. ||29||
They are awake and aware, whom the Lord Himself awakens; so contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||29||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those the One Itself wakes up are the ones who are awake and aware.

So think deeply about the Guru's Word.

Awakening is done in you — and you can keep the Guru's Word close.
The deeper layer

Aap jagaa-ay sayee jaagay — those the One awakens are the ones who are awake. Even wakefulness is grace: you do not manufacture your own awakening. But the verse still gives you something to do — gur kai sabad veechaaree, contemplate the Word, and let it do the waking.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel most awake and alive to the world?
