Remembering and Forgetting

ਇਕਨਾ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧੪॥
iknaa naavhu aap bhulaa-ay iknaa gurmukh day-ay bujhaa-ee. ||14||
Some, the Lord causes to forget and lose the Name; others become Gurmukh, and are granted this understanding. ||14||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some, the One Itself lets forget the Naam.

Others turn to the Guru, and the One gives them understanding.

Some forget the Naam and some are given understanding — both within the One.
The deeper layer

Some forget the Name and some are helped to understand, and both happen within the One.

Iknaa naavhu aap bhulaa-ay means that the One lets some forget the Name. Iknaa gurmukh day-ay bujhaa-ee means others become gurmukh, people who face the teaching, and they are given understanding.

Both remembering and forgetting happen within the One's way.

A Question to Sit With
