saglay chhod beechaar manaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Give up all others thoughts, O mind. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Keep in mind the One who keeps you safe.

O mind, let every other thought go.

Returning your attention to the One quiets the swirl of worry.
The deeper layer

Hold the One who keeps you, and let the swirl of other thoughts settle.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Raakhanhaar samhaar janaa — keep in mind the One who protects you. Raakhanhaar means the Keeper, the One who looks after you.

Saglay chhod beechaar manaa — O mind, set down all the other thoughts. This does not mean forcing your thoughts to stop. It means coming back to what steadies you.

Think of a snow globe after you shake it. Flakes swirl everywhere. You cannot grab each flake and put it down. But if you set the globe on the table and wait, it all settles. Remembering the Keeper is like setting the globe down.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your busy thoughts settle down?
