Some, in sickness, sorrow and doubt.
ਕਾਹੂ ਪਵਨ ਧਾਰ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਏ ॥

In plain words

Some spend their days in yoga, hard practices, and worship.

Some spend them weighed down by sickness, sorrow, or worry.

Some spend them mastering the breath.

And the saints spend their days singing the One's praises.

When days are heavy, song can be a way to carry them.
The deeper layer

Some days go to hard practices, some to hard times. The saints spend theirs singing the One's praise.

Kaahoo bihaavai jog tap poojaa — some spend life on jog, tap, and poojaa. Jog is yoga. Tap is hard spiritual practice. Poojaa is worship. The verse names them with respect.

Kaahoo rog sog bharmeejaa — some spend it caught in sickness, sadness, and worry. This is part of being human, and the verse holds it gently. It does not blame anyone for hard times.

Kaahoo pavan Dhaar — some spend it controlling the breath, as some yogis do.

Then the turn. Sant bihaavai keertan gaa-ay — the saints spend their days singing keertan. Keertan is singing the praises of the One, often together.

Think of a family singing in the car on a long drive. The road is the same, but the trip feels lighter. Singing praise is a joyful way to travel through life.

A Question to Sit With

What lifts your spirits when a day feels heavy?
