Wherever the One places a heart, that is where the heart takes hold.
No one is the fool, and no one the clever one.
Nanak says: I give myself, again and again, to those who, by grace, are given the Name.
No one is above anyone else: every heart takes hold where the One has placed it.
Jit ko laa-i-aa tit hee lagaanaa — wherever the One places us, that is where we take hold. All those different lives in the song were placed by the same hand.
So: naa ko moorh nahee ko si-aanaa — no one is the fool, and no one is the smart one. This is a beautiful leveling. No one is above, and no one is below.
Think of a school play. One kid is the king, one is a tree, one works the lights. The roles look different, but the same teacher handed them out. No one is better for their part.
Then Nanak bows. Naanak taa kai bal bal jaa-o — my whole heart goes out to those who, by grace, receive the Name. The Name is a gift, not a prize to be won.
Why is it kinder to remember that no one is simply the fool?
