Verse 2 of 9

Wherever I Look, You Are Caring

ਐਸੇ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
aisay raakhanhaar da-i-aal.
Such is the Merciful Lord, my Protector.
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jat kat daykh-a-u tum partipaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Wherever I look, I see You cherishing and nurturing. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This is what the kind Keeper is like.

Wherever I look, I see You caring for and feeding the world.

Care is happening everywhere, all the time.
The deeper layer

The One's care is everywhere you look.

This is the rahaa-o line. Rahaa-o means "pause." It is the center of the shabad, the line the whole song is built around.

Aisay raakhanhaar da-i-aal — this is what the kind Keeper is like. Raakhanhaar means the One who protects. Da-i-aal means kind and merciful.

Jat kat daykh-a-u tum partipaal — wherever I look, I see You caring for everything. Partipaal means feeding and looking after.

So grace is care that is always there, every day. Think of the sun. It does not shine only on special days. It warms everything, every day, even behind the clouds.

A Question to Sit With

Where can you see something being cared for right now?
