In plain words

Be kind to me, You who break the pain of the humble and the poor; let me be dust at the feet of Your saints.

Nanak, Your servant, asks to see You, God; that sight holds up my mind and my body.

When you stop chasing everything, one quiet wish remains — to be near the One.
The deeper layer

Restless hunger gives way to one small request: to be near.

Deen dukh bhanjan is a name for the One who breaks the pain of the meek and the poor. Guru Arjan asks this kind One for mercy.

He asks to be raavaar, the dust of the saints' feet. That means staying humble and close to good people, and learning from them. It is not about thinking badly of yourself.

Then he asks to see the One. Daras, that sight, becomes the aaDhaar, the support his whole mind and body lean on. Think of a small child who only needs to see a parent in the doorway to fall asleep in peace.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the kind, wise people you could learn from just by being near them?
