Carried Across Together

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਅਵਗਨ ਸਭਿ ਪਰਹਰਿਆ ॥

Those who join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, are liberated; all their demerits are taken away.
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
tin ka-o daykh bha-ay kirpaalaa tin bhav saagar tari-aa. ||7||
Seeing them, God becomes merciful; they are carried across the terrifying world-ocean. ||7||

In plain words

Those who join the Sangat find themselves set free, their old faults quietly falling away.

Seeing them, the One turns kind, and they are carried safely across the wide, deep waters of life.

The Sangat carries you across what you could not cross alone.
The deeper layer

The Sangat sets people free, and the One carries them across.

Mukat bha-ay saaDhsangat kar means they became free by joining the saaDhsangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. That gathering lifts everyone in it. Avgan sabh parhari-aa means all their faults were taken away.

Tin ka-o daykh bha-ay kirpaalaa means, seeing them, the One became kind.

Bhav saagar is the world-ocean, the wide, deep waters of life. The verse keeps the focus on being carried, not on the danger. Think of a team crossing a river together, holding hands, while a strong guide leads the way.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your Sangat helps you become your better self?
