Verse 3 of 13

Beyond Counting, Beyond Sorrow and Joy

mit naahee jaa kaa bisthaar.
There is no limit to His Expanse.
sobhaa taa kee apar apaar.
His Glory is Infinite and Endless.
anik rang jaa kay ganay na jaahi.
His many plays cannot be counted.
sog harakh duhhoo meh naahi. ||2||
He is not subject to pleasure or pain. ||2||

In plain words

How big is the One? There is no edge to measure. However far you travel, its greatness keeps going.

All the countless things happening everywhere — the play, the colors, the endless movement of life — no one could ever count them all. And through every bit of it, the One stays perfectly steady, never tossed up by joy or pulled down by sorrow.

The One has no edge to measure, and stays perfectly steady through both joy and sorrow.
The deeper layer

mit naahee — there is no measure; apar apaar — boundless and beyond boundless. anik rang are the countless plays and colors of existence. sog harakh duhoo meh naahi: the One is untouched by both sorrow and joy — the same steady equipoise, sahaj, that the aligned soul slowly grows toward.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay steady when things get either very exciting or very hard?
