Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Naam of the One is pure and clean, and listening to it closely, with your whole attention, brings peace. Listen and listen again until it settles into your mind; rare is the person who lets it in that deeply.
Whether you are sitting still or up and moving, keep it close, that truest of true things. Those who love the One lean on the Naam and find their rest there. Nanak says: the One fills your mind and your whole body, and the One is the Guru's Word.
Pauri 5, the first of this Vaar's Suniai (deep-listening) sequence. Hearing the Name brings peace (suniai sukh ho-ee); repeated listening enshrines it in the mind. Sitting and standing, one keeps it close. The One pervades mind and body (rav rahi-aa) and is the Guru's Word — an echo of Japji's Suniai pauris.
What is the difference between hearing someone and listening to them?
