Nanak says: a life is weighed when the soul itself is placed on the scale. Nothing you could put on the other side would balance out a single word spoken about the One.
To call the One great is to lift something heavier than earth and water and mountains piled together — no jeweler's tiny scale could ever measure it. Nanak says: when we are asked, the answer comes. When we rush to explain the One in clever words, we end up stumbling around in the dark, showing only how little we understand. Better to grow quiet before something so vast.
Shalok, First Mehl. The One's greatness outweighs earth, water and mountains; no goldsmith with tiny weights could measure it. The blind leading the blind (moorakh andhiaa) is cleverness that rushes to explain and only exposes its own limits. The way forward is humble silence.
When is staying quiet wiser than having something clever to say?
