Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When your heart is full and turned toward the One, the whole world seems to brighten — the earth looks beautiful and the sky looks lovely. The world stays the same; now you are seeing it with a full and grateful heart.

Nanak says that without the Naam, even the same earth and sky can feel dull and lifeless. The difference lives inside you: the Naam alive in your heart, coloring everything you see.

A grateful heart makes the ordinary world look luminous.
The deeper layer

Shalok, Fifth Mehl (Guru Arjan). dharat suhaavarhee aakaas suhandaa japandi-aa har naa-o — earth and sky are made beautiful by remembering the Naam; the world is transfigured by the inner state. Without the Naam, a life is left empty, like a body with no breath in it.

A Question to Sit With

When has an ordinary day suddenly looked beautiful because of how you felt inside?
