Without serving the True Guru, no one finds peace; mortals die and are reborn, over and over again.

Some are saved, by Guru's Grace. Everyone humbly bows before such humble beings.

O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, deep within yourself, day and night. You shall find the Door of Salvation. ||1||

In plain words

Without serving the Guru, peace stays just out of reach. When we get caught in clinging — attached to things and lost in the feeling of being separate — life can feel like the same struggles going round and round. It is like being under a spell that keeps us stuck.

But some people find their way free by the Guru's grace, and everyone can feel the goodness in them. Nanak says: keep the Naam close, deep inside you, through the day and through the night. The door to freedom is right there within you.

The door to freedom is always open — you just keep turning toward it.
The deeper layer

Shalok, Third Mehl. mar jameh vaaro vaar — dying and being born again and again, the same struggles going round and round. moh thag-ulee — the drug or spell of attachment; doojai bhaa-ay is duality. gur parsaadee ubray — saved by grace, received and not earned. mokh du-aar, the Door of Salvation, is always present and found by keeping the Name within.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you cling to that might feel lighter if you loosened your grip?
