In plain words

Imagine wanting something so deeply that you come with completely open hands and simply ask — please, let me see what is true. There is a beautiful kind of thirst in that, a longing to catch even a glimpse of the One, because that glimpse brings such peace.

And here is the gift: what you are longing to see was never far away. The Guru shows you that it is right here with you, woven through every place and every person. Sometimes you are a little asleep to it. Nanak says: then the One gently wakes you up and draws your heart close — and there it is, and there it always was.

What you long for most is already here — sometimes you just need to wake up to it.
The deeper layer

Pauri 29 (Fourth Mehl). mangat jan jaachai daan — the beggar asking for a gift with open, empty hands, ready for grace (received, not earned). darsan kee pi-aas — thirst for darshan, the blessed seeing. rav rahi-aa sabh thaa-ay: the One pervades all places, so the longing is for what is already present. sutiaa aap uthaal day-ay — grace itself wakes the sleeper. khin pal gharee na jeev-oo — the longing is so strong that not one moment feels livable without that sight.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something beautiful all around you that you have stopped noticing?
