O Nanak, without the Name, those loving attachments are cursed; engrossed in them, he suffers in pain. ||32||

In plain words

Love between people is one of the sweetest things there is. But when love turns into only wanting more and holding on tighter — even reaching for what is not ours to keep — it slowly tangles into worry and quarrels.

Love does not have to go that way. When you keep the Naam at the center of it, your love stays warm and whole. Nanak says: attachment without the Naam brings only pain — it is the forgetting that hurts.

Love stays whole when what is real stays at its center.
The deeper layer

Pauri 32 (Fourth Mehl). Love between husband and wife (istaree purkhai preet) grows into attachment, and the heart delights in family and in maya. Attachment that hardens into grasping — even gathering wealth wrongly (dhan choraa-ay) — ends in conflict (vair virodh), and no one can set you free from it. dhrig moh: attachment without the Naam is cursed, and clinging to it brings pain.

A Question to Sit With

What keeps your love for someone generous instead of grasping?
