Wherever I Go, You Are There

ਨਿਧਰਿਆ ਧਰ ਨਿਗਤਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਨਿਥਾਵਿਆ ਤੂ ਥਾਉ ॥
niDhri-aa Dhar nigti-aa gat nithaavi-aa too thaa-o.
Support of the unsupported, Saving Grace of the unsaved, Home of the homeless.
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਜਾਂਉ ਤਹਾਂ ਤੂ ਸੰਗੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥੨॥
dah dis jaaN-o tahaaN too sangay tayree keerat karam kamaa-o. ||2||
Wherever I go in the ten directions, You are there with me. The only thing I do is sing the Kirtan of Your Praises. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the support of those with no support, the home of those with no home. Turn any direction — left, right, ahead, behind, up, down — and You are already there. There is no corner of anywhere that You are not.

So I never travel away from You. Wherever my feet take me, You come too, and my heart keeps singing about You the whole way.

You cannot walk to a place where the One is not already waiting.
The deeper layer

"Ten directions" (dah dis) is the old way of saying everywhere. You are homeless nowhere, because the One is your companion in every place. Keertan — singing the divine praises — becomes not a duty but the natural overflow of noticing that companionship.

A Question to Sit With

Does it change how a scary place feels to remember you are not alone in it?
