I speak with the Company of the Holy; I am in love with the Holy people of the Lord.

Servant Nanak has found the Lord through the Guru's Teachings; please bless me with Your Blessed Vision; O Lord, my mind yearns for it. ||4||1||

In plain words

I keep the Sangat, I talk with the saints, and with them my love stays fixed on the One.

Nanak says: through the Guru's teaching I have found it. Please, let me see You; my whole heart longs for that one gift.

In the Sangat, a lonely longing becomes a shared one.
The deeper layer

The thirst is quenched among the people who love the One. The rainbird's thirst from the opening returns here as a request, now made from inside the Sangat. The sight of the One is received as a gift: the heart simply yearns, and the yearning is met.

Saadhan kaa sang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Gosat means talking together, and liv laa-o means keeping your attention lovingly fixed on the One.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who make you want to be your best, truest self?
