Treasure Buried in the Ground

maa-i-aa kaaran saram at karai.
For the sake of Maya, the mortal works very hard.
so maa-i-aa lai gaadai Dharai.
He takes the wealth of Maya, and buries it in the ground.
at sanchai samjhai nahee moorhH.
He acquires so much, but the fool does not appreciate it.
Dhan Dhartee tan ho-ay ga-i-o Dhoorh. ||3||
His wealth remains buried in the ground, while his body turns to dust. ||3||

In plain words

Someone works themselves ragged for treasure, then buries it away in the ground.

They gather so much and never even enjoy it, and in the end the treasure stays buried while they move on. Holding tight did not keep it.

Holding tighter never turns borrowed things into kept things.
The deeper layer

Maya, the glittering, slippery world of things that look solid but slip away, drives a person to exhaust themselves and bury their treasure, never even enjoying it. Moorh (fool) names a state of not noticing, one anyone can wake from.

A Question to Sit With

What is enough for you, and how would you know when you had it?
