You Yourself are the deity, and You are the temple of worship. You are the devoted worshipper.

From the water, the waves rise up, and from the waves, the water. They are only different by figures of speech. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are the One being loved, and the place of worship, and the one who loves. All of it is You.
Like a wave and the sea: we call them by different names, but the wave was only ever the sea.
The wave and the sea were never two different things.
All is one. The One is the worshipped, the temple, and the worshipper all at once, like the wave that rises from the sea and falls back into it. We give the wave and the sea different names, but there was only ever the sea. The image rhymes with the whole tradition's picture of the wave and the ocean.
