Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is pleased and appeased. The lotus blossoms forth in the water. ||1||

In plain words

Until I catch sight of my Beloved, I stay hungry and thirsty inside, no matter what else I have.

But the moment I see the One, my whole heart settles — like a lotus opening wide in the water it was made for.

Your heart stays thirsty until it rests in what it was made for.
The deeper layer

The heart stays hungry until it sees the One it loves.

Darsan means seeing the Beloved. Until that happens, Guru Nanak says the heart stays bhookh pi-aasee, hungry and thirsty. Thirst is a big theme in Raag Saarang.

Then the moment comes. "Kamal bigaasee" means the lotus opens up. A lotus is a flower that grows in water. When it is in its own water, it opens wide.

Think of a kid at the airport waiting for a parent to come home. All the waiting melts the second they see that face. The heart is finally where it belongs.

A Question to Sit With

What is the water your heart opens up in?
